Greyhound Journey

It is always a pleasant experience to work hard and some times travel the extra mile for something that you long for. Especially, if the extra mile is for the ‘special’ person then miles never count. For the very same reason the frequency of my travel has been increased, to an extent that I could have got a free ticket to ‘Las Vegas’ has been it for any major airline. However, my recent travel has been mostly by ‘Greyhound’ the very thought of it which might bring back nightmarish smells to people who have been ‘carried’ by it. Personally, greyhound is the best mode of travel for solo long journeys for three compelling reasons. Firstly you spend only half of the money that you would otherwise by renting a car or by air. Secondly, you get to sleep or write a blog or crochet a beautiful gift instead of concentrating on driving. Thirdly, you get to meet lot of interesting people. The first journey may not convey all these special points of greyhound travel, but frequent traveling will change the initial dynamic bitter state to as a static bland taste. The blandness could turn into occasional sweetness due to our exposure to a community different to the vibrant college one. Initially, I was in denial of such community at least in ‘land of opportunities’, but soon realized that attitude and mentality of people in certain ‘communities’ is same irrespective of place, race or creed. If you were to travel by it, then make sure you have some good company of people or books that can keep you distracted from the smells from the underworld.

Transition from summer to fall

The first two weeks of classes have been really hectic. Though it has been the same story since undergrad, it is always a learning experience to get adjusted to the new classes, new schedule and the fast paced life. We learn so many new things and not to forget we sometimes re-learn and un-learn about some obvious things. It is amazing how many things that we have learned over ‘summer’ are being put to help. Thanks to morning classes that there is no more drooling over those sweet dreams early in the morning (which we always wish would last for few more hours). Honestly, the first week was not at all clear, half sleeps continued until the last hour of the work, just seemed like there was not enough sleep. This is when a ‘poker face’ was the best option. With new information being stuffed in at enormous pace, ‘lateral’ thinking about the subject quizzes has been a new game. With many reports to write, blog writing skills are definitely being put to use (though I wrote only one before this). Nuero-simulators (caffeine) are being used survive (wonder how we made it through those 9 hours of weekend poker). All this makes one ponder how beautiful summer was, those cool lazy days, routine uninterrupted research schedule, those sweet mornings of waking up late, regular badminton schedule and not to forget regular weekend schedule too. Been so used to not hearing the wake up call, that the very annoying alarm sound is now the first tone we hear every “fall” day. However, the transition so far is been very pleasant. Though it is too early to wake up the very thought of challenging ourselves makes us do it. Though the half sleeps continue much into the day, we are broad awake to observe the increased beauty of the campus (…….beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder). Though we have so much to do with so little time, the fact that it is process of learning makes us content. However, occasional complain can never be avoided.
